Those of you who are hip hop fans will immediately recognize the photo and reference to Rockafella above. That’s right—the man we all know and love, Jay Z.

The similarities to Scrivs are uncanny. Ok, so he doesn’t have Jay Z’s ice. And Jay Z isn’t posing in his bedroom. But let’s dive deeper.

Both are proud owners of exceptional egos. I have notes in Backpack for a future post about the value of confidence in convincing other people you are the best—Scrivs and Jigga both can attest to that.

When I first ran into Scrivs’ work online I didn’t like him much at all. He is cocky, confident, and driven. My first reaction to Jay Z was pretty similar. When someone comes along like that my first impulse is rivalry. A challenge to be better than this new threat. The funny thing is that these ego maniacs only threaten my own ego because we are so similar. And at that point there are only two routes: battle or join forces.

And just like I came around and embraced Jay Z’s work and began to use it as a major source of inspiration and motivation, so too will I drop barriers and join with Scrivs in the network.

The network. No, the family. La familia. Much like the Hov-founded rap empire The Rockafella Family, a dynasty collective of the best in hip hop.
